How can we teach kids to eat healthy food & have a healthy relationship w/food?

How can we teach kids to eat healthy food & have a healthy relationship with food?

No child is ever born to like chips, french fries, and cakes, yet, their taste preferences get influenced by the kind of exposure they get while growing up. TV commercials play a significant role in tempting kids to eat junk food. Other factors are peer pressure, birthday parties, and dinner outings with family, which spoil the eating habits of innocent kids. If your child has developed unhealthy eating habits, you can reprogram their mind to create healthy eating habits. The sooner you introduce them to healthy eating habits, the stronger your child’s relationship with food gets.

And the best way to do it is Model the right behavior for them. Let them see you enjoy good food. Let them help prepare it as soon as they're able. Food should be fun, both to eat and to cook. Eat together. At a table. At least once per day. Don't eat, or let kids eat, in front of a television set.

Parents who have a healthy relationship with food have the best odds of having children who have a healthy relationship with food.

Today, it's not the control that's the problem. It's getting parents to bring green stuff in the house, turn off the TV, and get outside with their children and move. Want to see it first hand? Check people standing around you at the checkout line in the supermarket to see where the problem really is.

So here is the secret: Don’t have anything else but healthy foods in the house. If it’s in the house (even if it’s in an secret compartment of the top kitchen pantry where you think it’s safe), the kids will find it.  And if  you really have to eat junk, wait til they are asleep :-)

I keep nothing else in the house but healthy foods and fruit as snacks. It’s the only thing that has worked for me and never looked back. Now it is the norm for. My kid doesn’t ever have soda or candy and she don’t miss it or ask for it.

Next week will have a DIY project for kids - Making compost from grocery/kitchen waste. Lets teach them how to grow food as well..
